more from the woodland folk

this little path through the wood wends its way along the crest of the valley and is surrounded on each side by acres of wild garlic. The hillside faces south east but is very shaded, except at the top where the light is very dappled.

You have still left me wondering if wild garlic has an odor??

a very strong smell of garlic, but in the woods it is quite pleasant

Just a little more info on wild garlic. Known locally as ransomes and used for various recipes. I've recently had a ransome and asparagus rissotto and ransome and broccoli soup. Some hedgerows are full of it at the moment (ransomes not soup!) and driving through a haze of garlic scent is a rather surreal experience (to me, at least!).

I think it's ramsons rather than swallows and amazons

there is also some three cornered garlic growing (rampaging?) at the bottom of Downgate Hill
